Good signing by the BACK TO BACK CHAMPIONS

The Perth Scorchers have today announced the signing of England international all-rounder David Willey for the 2015-16 KFC Big Bash League season. The 25-year-old left-armer is the Scorchers first international recruit for BBL|05 and takes the squad to 16 players.
Willey joins the Scorchers having made both his One-Day International and T20 International debuts for England earlier this year.
Scorchers coach Justin Langer said the big-hitting Willey, who in 2015 opened both the bowling and batting in T20 cricket at Northamptonshire, was a “really good package”. “David Willey is an up-and-coming, hungry, hard-working young player who will hopefully provide with some power hitting in the middle overs,” Langer said. “He offers left-arm swing bowling and has showed how well he can do that against the Australians in the one-dayers a few months ago. “He’s also a gun fielder and is renowned for his work ethic and character. It’s a really good package.”
Willey is new on the international scene, with six ODIs and two T20I appearances to his name, but is an exciting talent. He played the final two ODIs in the recent England-Australia series, claiming four wickets including the scalp of Steve Smith. Those appearances came after helping Northamptonshire reach the NatWest T20 Blast final, including belting a century from 40 balls and taking 3-27 in a quarter-final.
The addition of Willey is one of few changes to the successful Scorchers squad which has plenty of continuity on the back of consecutive titles. “We felt we needed to strengthen that power hitting in the middle order this year," Langer said. “If you look at our squad, it’s hardly changed which is a real positive. "A lot will depend on international selections and injuries, but to have the crux of the squad together, one year more experienced, having won the last two titles, it’s a positive.” Willey has been withdrawn from the England Lions tour of the UAE in December in order to play for the Scorchers for the duration of BBL|05.

There was a discussion on the Cook dismissal further down. When the ball was delivered (ie after the delivery stride) his foot was behind the line. Whether that's right or not I don't know and I agree that there is some sort of problem with umpires not scrutinising no-balls properly. This was ridiculous in the Ashes and can only assume it's some sort of instruction. Needs to be corrected.
The problem on the Asian pitches is usually umpires struggling to give close catching and lbw decisions. Given the interior DRS tools I thought the umpires got the vast majority right.
Just happened to notice that Paul Reiffel gave some very good lbw decisions .... probably helped by the fact he had the best Test bowling average on the field so knows his stuff.

Apart from when they gave a bloke on 263 out off a no ball. This despite the fact they they now don't bother to look at the front foot when the ball is delivered and instead routinely check for no balls when a batsman is out. Very poor.

Are you blaming the umpires ? They had no discretion in the matter today.
The question of playing under lights with a red ball is another matter. Technically that supposedly is a problem in the twilight.
As I mentioned earlier that is behind the development of the pink ball for day night Tests.
Today was frustrating for England but the same thing would have happened if they had been at Lords with the lights on and not a Pakistani or Australian in sight.

Haven't. said anything of the sort Sven. In fact I clearly said it was a poor show. The actual point which you don't seem able to fathom is that here we are in 2015 and they can't even end a game properly in the Middle East in a stadium with floodlights.
However you look at it there were 8 overs left when the Umpires took them off. It's risible.
As was the Aussie being unabkevto get Panes out in Cardiff... Risible.

ha ha. The decision to go off is at the BEHEST of the light meter once the players have gone off on previous days.
Actually the umpires were very good in this match. Spot on on virtually every lbw. Couple of debatable ones for the third umpire but given he didn't have all the toys he had to guess a bit.

If Cook had declared overnight or got on with it when he was playing for his average England may well have won.

Are you saying there wasn't time wasting in that game? There was and it was up to the umpires to shoo off INTERLOPERS which they did at one point today.
There is no reason for Pakistan to play quickly or place a field or bowl in a way to help England but they did push the line today. As England did in 2009. I'd probably do the same.
Unfortunately in play the umpires can only do so much.

The rules now are about the umpires deciding when play is impossible and taking a light reading at that point. Under current rules that level then dictates when they go off on subsequent days. You can understand trying to be consistent.

That 2009 test match finished at 6-43. Three minutes after the scheduled 6-40 cut off. Didn't think I'd look it up did you?
However to answer your question. Yes I thought it was a poor show at the time.. My point remains. How was a match, on a knife's edge, played in the Middle East, stopped with 8 overs remaining?

Reminded me of the eng v Pak 87 test match at edgbaston...boring for 4 and a half days then all hell breaks loose.

Did you complain when England sent on trainers , glove carriers and a bloke with an ice cream when Collingwood & Panesar saved the Test at Cardiff in 2009?
Reckon Tests should have a set number of overs and come back on Day 6 if necessary.
And every over short of 90 in 6 hours should cost you 20 runs.
